It's official: a brand-new Ministerial Advisory Board has been sworn in to bolster the Ministry of Defence. This move is designed to strengthen Ghana's defense capabilities, ensuring the safety and security of the nation. But what exactly does this mean, and why is it so important?

Leading the charge is Dr. Casiel Ato Forson, who currently juggles the roles of Minister of Finance and Acting Minister of Defence. He's joined by Deputy Defence Minister Ernest Brogya Genfi, alongside other experts from various fields.
The swearing-in ceremony was a brief but significant event, setting the stage for the board's critical work. According to Dr. Forson, the Ministry of Defence has a primary mission: to oversee the Ghana Armed Forces and safeguard the country's territorial integrity. The advisory board is designed to provide strategic guidance and oversight, working in tandem with the ministry to achieve these goals.
"Territorial integrity is of critical importance," Dr. Ato Forson emphasized, highlighting the President's role as Commander-in-Chief. This board is therefore essential to strengthen our defense policy and oversight.
And this is the part most people miss... The board's diverse composition, which includes representatives from the public and private sectors, veterans, academia, and civil society, is a deliberate strategy. It ensures a comprehensive approach to defense policy, strategic advice, and accountability. The first board meeting is scheduled for the second week of 2026, where members will tackle key issues affecting the Ministry of Defence.
