Oilers' Incredible Comeback: 3 Goals in 3rd Period, OT Win vs. Sharks (2026)

The Edmonton Oilers staged an exhilarating comeback after trailing by three goals in the third period to defeat the San Jose Sharks in overtime. With just one second remaining on the clock, Evan Bouchard unleashed a powerful slap shot from long range that found its way through a crowd of players, tying the game at 3-3. The excitement didn't stop there—Zach Hyman clinched the victory for the Oilers with a spectacular one-timer off a cross-ice feed from Connor McDavid, sending the puck into the net via the left post.

In this thrilling match, Leon Draisaitl and Bouchard each contributed a goal and two assists, while McDavid added a goal and an assist for the Oilers, who now boast a record of 28 wins, 19 losses, and 8 overtime losses. Remarkably, this marks their first three-game winning streak of the season, finally breaking a previous string of nine failed attempts. Meanwhile, Connor Ingram, the Oilers' goaltender, made 17 critical saves during the game.

On the other side, the Sharks (with a record of 27-21-4) had recently enjoyed a positive run, winning three of their last four games. Collin Graf, Adam Gaudette, and Michael Misa were the scorers for the Sharks, while Yaroslav Askarov, their goaltender, recorded 28 saves.

The Sharks initially dominated the game when Graf scored just 26 seconds into the first period. He received a well-placed cross-ice pass from Will Smith and calmly deposited the puck into an unguarded net with a wrist shot. Gaudette then doubled their lead to 2-0 at 1:35 into the second period, skillfully lifting a backhand shot over Ingram’s right pad during a partial breakaway.

Misa widened the gap to 3-0 at 11:40, taking advantage of a rebound after his quick snap shot from the right circle hit Ingram and then deflected off Bouchard into the net.

It looked like Barclay Goodrow had given the Sharks a commanding 4-0 lead at 6:42 of the second period, scoring into an open net. However, the officials overturned the goal due to goalie interference by Zack Ostapchuk, keeping the Oilers in the game.
