According to Alex Speier of the Boston Globe, the Red Sox are currently in discussions with the Chicago Cubs regarding the potential acquisition of both Nico Hoerner and Massachusetts native Matt Shaw. Chicago is contemplating whether to trade one of these players due to the crowded infield situation following their recent signing of Alex Bregman. They might also decide to keep both players, which would allow them to utilize Shaw as a versatile utility player.
Notably, one source has indicated that the Red Sox are among the top contenders interested in acquiring a Chicago infielder, highlighting the team's commitment to strengthening their roster.
