Scottsbluff Accident:
On December 24, 2025, just before 5:05 p.m., a distressing incident unfolded at the bustling intersection of 5th Avenue and Highway 26. An 88-year-old driver, Joan G. Siegfried, in a silver 2019 Buick LaCrosse, turned northbound onto 5th Avenue, colliding with a 68-year-old man crossing the street during the designated crossing period. The pedestrian sustained minor injuries and was promptly assisted by several good Samaritans until emergency services arrived.
The driver, however, left the scene, sparking a search involving multiple agencies, including the Scottsbluff Fire Department, Regional West Emergency Medical Services, and the Scotts Bluff County Sheriff's Department. Officers later identified and cited Siegfried for leaving the scene of an injury accident.
The Scottsbluff Police Department expresses gratitude to the citizens who came to the pedestrian's aid and reminds drivers of their legal obligation to remain at the scene of any accident and promptly report it to the authorities.
And this is the part most people miss: the importance of staying vigilant and patient, especially during the holiday season, when our roads are busier than ever. This incident serves as a stark reminder that even minor accidents can have significant consequences.
