Attention all drivers: Teton Pass has just reopened after a brief closure, but caution is essential!
As of 10:05 a.m. today, the Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) has announced that Teton Pass is once again accessible in both directions, albeit under chain law level 1. This means that while the road is open, drivers should be extra careful as conditions may be slushy.
Earlier this morning, at around 8 a.m. on December 17, WYDOT reported that they had to close Teton Pass due to challenging winter weather conditions. The department did not provide an estimated time for when the pass would reopen, leaving many commuters uncertain about their travel plans. By approximately 8:45 a.m., surveillance cameras operated by WYDOT indicated that the Wilson entrance was shut off, while the entry point from the Idaho state line remained open.
In their alert, WYDOT also advised travelers to expect slushy conditions on other routes. So, if you’re hitting the roads today, keep that in mind and drive safely!
For those unfamiliar with the area, Teton Pass is known for its scenic views, but it can also pose significant challenges during winter months due to snow and ice. It’s crucial to stay updated on road conditions, especially given Wyoming's unpredictable winter weather.
